Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida ŠimonytÄ has called for an immediate intergovernmental conference on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
She made this statement during a joint briefing with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
"We have other steps to take. We need to negotiate Ukraine's EU membership, promote further implementation of progress," ŠimonytÄ said.
According to her, Ukraine has made incredible progress in a very short period, even in the conditions of war.
"I assured the Prime Minister of Ukraine that Lithuania's position is more than clear. Official negotiations on convening an intergovernmental conference should start immediately," the Prime Minister emphasized.
She also mentioned that Lithuania is already providing and is ready to enhance its support, including expert support, in future negotiations regarding Ukraine's EU membership and to promote further implementation of reforms and strengthening of Ukraine's administrative capacity.
