Lithuania plans to mine its border with Russia and Belarus. This step was considered following statements from Poland.

This was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.

Lithuanian Minister of National Defense, Dovilė Šakalienė, explained that she, along with the defense ministers of Poland and Finland, discussed the integration of the "Eastern Shield" and the Baltic defense line, as well as Finland's involvement in creating a unified border protection plan.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense noted that the country remains a strong and reliable partner in transatlantic, European, and regional formats and is actively promoting multilateral solutions on key defense policy issues.

According to the ministry, in the past three months, Šakalienė has held bilateral meetings with defense ministers from 24 countries and participated in more than 10 multilateral forums.

"During these meetings, discussions were initiated regarding the update and expansion of the counter-mobility concept—based on the Polish example, the northeastern flank could be reinforced with several layers of fortifications, including, but not limited to, antipersonnel and anti-tank mines. Regional partners intend to seek EU funding to achieve this goal," the Ministry of Defense added.

At the same time, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported that internal institutions are also being mobilized for this work. An agreement has been signed with the Ministry of the Interior to develop shelter infrastructure, enhance the readiness of civil protection and healthcare systems, conduct joint tactical-level training for internal security forces and national defense structures.
