Lithuania has decided to close two border crossing points on the border with Belarus.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the country, Arnoldas Abramavicius, announced this to LRT.
Abramavicius mentioned that this is "one of the measures for which a decision to close two border crossing points​ will be taken soon." He added that "their names will be announced a bit later."
"If in Poland there is currently practically one border crossing point with Belarus, we have six of them. One prevention measure is to reduce their number from six to four," noted the deputy minister.
Abramavicius also pointed out that "if one country decides to close borders, it will not yield any results – only worsen the situation in other countries."
"Therefore, the only viable decision could be a regional one – like last year when the decision was made not to admit Russians," he stated, specifying that these actions depend on the number of provocations at the border.
Earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda admitted the possibility of closing the border with Belarus if the security situation becomes extremely challenging due to the presence of Wagner Group mercenaries on Belarusian territory.
