The self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has made amendments to the statutes of the armed forces of the country, according to which the military is allowed to use 'firearms, special means, combat and special equipment when performing their tasks' against citizens.

This was reported by Radio Liberty.

According to the document, the use of weapons against citizens is allowed even in the case of their committing administrative offenses.

The changes introduced by Lukashenko also state that a serviceman 'is not responsible for the damage' caused by gunfire when it is 'carried out in accordance with the requirements of the general military statutes.'

As reported earlier, Lukashenko signed amendments to the law 'On State Security Bodies,' according to which employees of special services are allowed to use weapons against women, children, and disabled persons in 'cases of armed resistance, armed or group attacks, or other actions endangering the lives or health of people'.
