Marta Kos: Ukraine to join EU agricultural policy under special terms

Ukraine will be integrated into the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) under a special model designed to protect European farmers while preserving Ukrainian agricultural exports to traditional markets in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

This was stated by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

Kos said the specific conditions for integrating Ukraine's agricultural sector would be determined jointly by EU member states and Ukraine during accession negotiations under Cluster 5.

The European Commission previously proposed introducing special conditions for Ukraine's EU membership in the agricultural sector, particularly regarding grain trade. The proposal aims to maintain access to traditional export markets, especially in North Africa.

Kos emphasised that this approach should simultaneously protect European agricultural producers and support the development of Ukraine's agricultural sector by aligning it with EU regulations while allowing exports to third-country markets to continue.

At the Ukraine-EU intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg on 13 October, Cluster 2, "Internal Market", and Cluster 3, "Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth", were officially opened as part of Ukraine's EU accession negotiations.
