The Ukrainian agricultural sector made significant progress from 2010 to 2021. Seventeen percent of Ukrainians work in agriculture, which accounts for 19% of GDP. 70% of the produce is exported, making these figures among the highest in Europe.
This was reported by Taras Vysotsky, Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, during his speech at the national educational and professional course for youth "State Builder: Path to State Restoration."
According to him, the Ukrainian-produced goods are sufficient to feed about 400 million people.
"Ukraine's role in international food security is very important. After the full-scale invasion by the aggressor country, Ukraine was unable to export products for four months. This led to a 35% increase in the global food price index in 2022. In African countries, hundreds of millions of people were forced to significantly reduce their food consumption," Vysotsky noted.
The Acting Minister explained that Ukraine traditionally exports grains, oilseeds, and many other products. Specifically, Ukraine ranks 4th in the world for corn exports, 1st for sunflower oil, and 7th for poultry meat exports. Ukrainian dairy producers are among the top ten exporters of butter. Additionally, Ukraine is 4th in the world for walnut supply and is a global leader in honey exports.
