As a result of a Russian strike with four guided aerial bombs on the Bilenkivska correctional colony, 16 prisoners were killed and 44 others wounded.
The Ministry of Justice reported this on Telegram.
“On July 28, 2025, at approximately 23:28, the Russian armed forces carried out an airstrike on the territory of the Bilenkivska correctional colony using four guided aerial bombs (GAB). The strike completely destroyed the institution’s dining hall and caused significant damage to the administrative headquarters and quarantine area. As a result of the attack, 16 prisoners were killed and 44 others wounded,” the statement said.
It was noted that the severely wounded were hospitalized in medical facilities under the Ministry of Health.
The ministry reminded that the strike on the correctional colony in the night of July 29 again demonstrates a gross violation of international humanitarian law by the Russian armed forces.
“The shelling of civilian infrastructure, including penitentiary institutions, is considered a war crime,” the ministry emphasized.
About 40 people received injuries of varying severity. One staff member of the institution sustained minor injuries (shrapnel wounds to the face). Around 50 officers of the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine were involved in maintaining order at the institution. All victims received medical assistance and are under observation in the medical unit, duty department, and other parts of the institution.
"The perimeter of the facility was not damaged, and there is no threat of prisoner escape,” the report concluded.
