Russia's support for the development of nuclear and missile programs in North Korea in response to military aid provided by Pyongyang poses a threat not only to neighboring countries of North Korea but also challenges global security. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed concern about this during a press conference.
"What we have seen in Ukraine demonstrates how interconnected our security is. North Korea provides significant military support for Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine and at the same time invests in nuclear and missile capabilities. We are deeply concerned that in response to military support provided by North Korea, Russia is assisting them with nuclear and missile programs. This demonstrates the interconnected nature of our security with the security of South Korea and other countries in Asia-Pacific," emphasized Stoltenberg.
He noted that South Korea is a highly respected partner of NATO, and the Alliance develops bilateral relations with South Korea in many areas, including pilot projects such as medical rehabilitation for Ukrainian servicemembers. Bilateral cooperation is actively developing in technological and innovation development, intelligence information exchange, and other spheres.
"NATO allies strongly condemn North Korea's numerous violations of UN Security Council resolutions regarding nuclear and missile programs that North Korea continues to advance. This poses a threat to its neighbors and is a challenge to global security," underscored Stoltenberg.
