The Netherlands, which is ready to host a special tribunal on Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine, is assessing the related risks, including cybersecurity concerns, if the tribunal is located in the country.

This was reported by De Telegraaf.

“The Dutch government is prepared to host the special tribunal on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. However, this raises concerns due to risks — particularly cyberattacks from Russia and prison overcrowding,” reads a letter from Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp to parliament, as reported by Telegraaf.

A risk assessment has been conducted, showing that such a tribunal would place a serious burden on the security system and require significantly more resources.

In the coming months, the Netherlands plans to explore the possibility of creating a separate location to host the tribunal and detain suspects. Financial costs are also being evaluated for both the Netherlands and partner countries.

Veldkamp also noted risks to the penitentiary system, as the country currently has no available space for prisoners.
