Norway will allocate up to 1.6 billion Norwegian kroner ($153 million) to the Czech initiative for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine from third countries.

This was reported by the press service of the Norwegian government.

"Norway supports Ukraine with artillery ammunition from its own reserves as well as directly from industry. Today, we have decided to contribute up to 1.6 billion Norwegian kroner to the initiative organized by the Czech Republic to promptly provide Ukraine with the necessary artillery ammunition," said Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre.

Czech President Petr Pavel revealed that Prague has identified 800,000 artillery ammunition units available for purchase for Ukraine. He specified that funding is required for this purpose.

The ammunition is to be purchased outside the European Union. This was a contingency plan as the bloc failed to fulfill its promise to deliver one million rounds of ammunition to Ukrainian defenders by March.

Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Denmark, Canada, and France have already supported the Czech plan.
