On February 17, Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, took part in a Spotlight Ukraine panel discussion on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. The discussion was also joined by Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, Senator and member of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Mitch McConnell, and Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna.

The main topics of the discussion were further support for Ukraine by Western partners and the likelihood of a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that reconstruction was already underway, as Ukraine had to support its people and economy, yet defense assistance would remain the No. 1 priority.

“The international community should have no illusions about the possibility of diplomacy with russia – this state has repeatedly demonstrated that its promises are worthless. That is why we need to win on the battlefield, and for this we need the help of our allies, including weapons and ammunition.

Having defeated the enemy, we will be able to ensure sustainable peace in Europe, with Ukraine as one of the main elements of the Euro-Atlantic security architecture,” commented Oleksandr Kubrakov.

The Deputy Prime Minister also stated that Ukraine needed strike aircraft as soon as possible. According to Oleksandr Kubrakov, the number of Ukrainians killed at the front line directly depends on the pace of providing Ukraine with weapons.

Among other things, the Minister emphasized that a peaceful settlement of this war was highly unlikely. Everything has to be decided on the battlefield. In particular, according to Oleksandr Kubrakov, negotiations will only allow russia to accumulate troops and weapons to launch an offensive with new forces.

At the same time, Oleksandr Kubrakov emphasized that in the future, after the victory, he saw Ukraine as a member of the EU and NATO and one of the strongest armies in the North Atlantic Alliance.
