Over the past day, on March 9, there have been 15 cases of chemical weapon use by Russians, almost all of them on the Zaporizhzhia direction.

This was reported by the spokesman for the operational-strategic grouping of troops 'Tavria,' Captain Dmytro Lykhoviy.

"Russians are increasingly using ammunition with poisonous substances. In total, over the past week, they have dropped grenades containing the poisonous substance chloropicrin from drones almost 50 times. When the enemy cannot capture our trenches with a classic artillery strike or a drone drop, they resort to using such tear gas," Lykhoviy said.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, Russians have attacked the Defense Forces 1068 times using chemical weapons.

Mobile groups and other units of the group of forces and means of support have recorded 1068 instances of the use of tear gas irritants equipped with poisonous chemical substances.

These substances are prohibited for use in warfare under Article 1, paragraph 5 of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Of these, only in February 2024, there were 250 cases, including 244 cases of white phosphorus use, 1 case of gas use, and 5 cases of other ammunition use with chemical substances.

Chemical reconnaissance units collect soil samples, vegetation, debris of ammunition, and send them for analysis.

Within the framework of an open criminal investigation, documented cases of the use of dangerous chemical substances are referred to investigative authorities for further investigation.
