Poland wants the European Union to launch a campaign in the United States to raise American public awareness about the importance of joint actions against Kremlin propaganda, informs the Voice of America.
In a document prepared for the EU Foreign Ministers' meeting on Monday, Poland calls for proactive measures ahead of the US presidential elections on November 5 to counter what it describes as "Russian disinformation" aimed at creating a rift between the EU and Washington.
“At this critical moment in history, it is crucial that we collectively take swift and decisive action to strengthen transatlantic relations through strategic EU communication with the US,” the document, reviewed by Reuters, states.
“This means expanding our debunking of Kremlin propaganda and, even more importantly, preemptively exposing Russian disinformation and launching campaigns that clarify Europe’s position today and the benefits of diplomacy, collective security, and open societies,” the document explains.
The Kremlin has stated it will not interfere in the November elections in the US and has also rejected US accusations that it orchestrated campaigns to influence the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
The Polish newspaper notes that Russian state media and Kremlin-linked online accounts are spreading and amplifying misleading content about immigration in the US and border security, distorting the impact of immigration, highlighting crimes committed by immigrants, and warning of severe consequences if the US does not take stringent measures at the Mexican border.
“We should expect much more, as weakening support for Ukraine remains Russia’s top priority. We need to remind the American public, especially the younger generation, of the benefits our long-standing partnership has brought to the US economy,” the document states.
Poland also reported numerous attempts by Russia to destabilize the country and interfere in elections due to its role in providing military assistance to neighboring Ukraine. Russia has denied these accusations.
“We need to increase American public awareness of the scale of European aid to Ukraine and how these efforts are helping to save Ukrainian lives,” the Polish newspaper said, referring to statements by US presidential candidate Donald Trump about European aid to Ukraine being significantly less than American aid.
