Poland scrambled fighter jets twice in one day to intercept Russian military aircraft over the Baltic Sea: first two Su-30 aircraft and later an Il-20 reconnaissance plane.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced this on the social media platform X, Ukrinform reports.

According to the Polish defence minister, Russia is once again testing the capabilities of Poland’s air defence systems.

“First, a pair of Polish fighter jets from the Malbork air base intercepted two Russian Su-30 multirole fighters over the Baltic Sea. After completing this operation, the Polish aircraft received a new task — to intercept a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft, which was located approximately 30 kilometres north of the village of Jastrzębia Góra,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

He added that after being escorted by Polish fighters, the Russian Il-20 was handed over to Swedish combat aircraft for further escort.

Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that in both cases the Russian aircraft did not violate Polish airspace.

Polish fighter jets have been intercepting Russian military aircraft over the Baltic Sea for the third consecutive day.
