Ukrainian law enforcement has initiated an investigation into the shooting of two Ukrainian soldiers by the Russian forces near the city of Selydove in Donetsk region, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.

On their Telegram channel on Monday, the office reported that on October 18, 2024, at 14:38, representatives of the Russian Armed Forces captured two Ukrainian servicemen in the Pokrovsk district.

"The occupiers, who stormed a forested area near Selydove, placed the unarmed prisoners of war face down. They held them in that position, pressing them to the ground with their feet, and after a while, shot them at point-blank range with automatic weapons," the statement said.

Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into a criminal case for violating the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The statement reminds that the murder of prisoners of war constitutes a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
