An online conference was held between the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tkachenko, and the Minister of Culture of Moldova, Sergey Prodan. The officials discussed the plans and vision for holding the Year of Ukrainian Culture in Moldova in 2023.

The parties also exchanged views on the implementation of the European agenda in its cultural dimension. The interlocutors touched upon the main topics discussed at the meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa and her Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmygal earlier this month in Kyiv.

“I reaffirmed the commitment of the Republic of Moldova to support cultural figures from Ukraine, refugees in the Republic of Moldova, who are invited to enter the labor market. As well as supporting the protection of cultural heritage, which can be evacuated at any time for preservation [until the end of the war] in the Republic of Moldova, as we promised in June at the meeting of the G-10 culture ministers in Lviv,” Prodan said.

“This year has become a turning point for relations between Ukraine and Moldova. It brought us closer, and we have big plans to strengthen our relationship. <…> There are many ideas, opportunities
and options for cooperation between our countries, institutions, and teams,”
Tkachenko stated.

The interlocutors discussed the possibility of performances by Moldovan teams at the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre. In addition, Moldova can host the team of the Mariupol Theater.
