46% of Ukrainians have switched to xPON technology, which allows home internet to function without electricity for up to three days, according to the press service of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
xPON is a data transmission technology via fiber-optic cables, ensuring stable internet speed and preventing network failures due to overloads. Currently, more than two thousand providers in the country are connected to this technology.
To ensure Wi-Fi continues to work during power outages, users need to additionally connect their router and optical terminal to a power bank.
A year ago, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, together with "LUN.Misto," created an online map where users can check if the internet works during power outages. Recently, the map’s functionality and design were updated.
The map shows whether the technology is available in the user's building or nearby and includes information on the provider's phone number, connection fees, monthly subscription cost, and the number of hours the internet works without electricity. Wi-Fi markers on the map are color-coded to show the number of hours the internet works during outages: yellow — up to 16 hours, light orange — up to 24 hours, and orange — up to 72 hours.
There is no universal solution for mobile internet like the xPON technology. Currently, the Ministry of Digital Transformation is working with operators to enable them to provide connectivity during power outages.
