Compared to the previous year, the number of people in Germany supporting military aid to Ukraine has increased.
This is according to the results of the Bundeswehr's annual survey, reported by Spiegel.
According to the survey, nearly half of the respondents (49%) support military aid to Ukraine, which is four percentage points higher than last year.
Only voters of the far-right "Alternative for Germany" and the far-left Alliance of Sahra Wagenknecht, as well as a group of non-voters, mostly rejected such support.
The Bundeswehr study shows that approval largely depends on whether respondents view Russia as a threat to Germany’s security. Respondents who consider Russia a threat are significantly more likely to support military aid to Ukraine than those who do not view Russia as a threat.
Overall, more than two-thirds of respondents (65%) believe that Russia's actions in Ukraine and its rearmament pose a danger to Germany.
The Bundeswehr surveyed nearly 2,000 citizens as part of a representative poll. The survey has been conducted annually since 1996 to measure the social perception of the Bundeswehr among the population.
