On the night of March 20, Engels suffered its most massive drone attack since the start of the war, as reported by the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin. Following the drone strike on the Engels-2 military airfield, which houses strategic aviation, including Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers, a fire broke out. Heavy smoke rising above the airfield is visible from the nearby "3rd Flight District," located 10 km away.

According to the Rusian sorces, Ukrainian drones also targeted an oil depot in Engels, causing a fire after debris hit the facility. This is likely the base of the Kristall factory, where fuel for strategic bombers is stored. The drone attack also resulted in damage to about 30 private and summer homes, as well as the Engels City Clinical Hospital No. 1, two kindergartens, and a school.
