On the night of June 23 (starting at 8:00 p.m. on June 22), the Russian forces launched a massive aerial attack using 368 airstrike assets:
- 352 attack UAVs, including Shahed-type drones and decoy drones of various types, launched from Kursk, Shatalovo, Oryol, Bryansk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia (up to 160 of them were Shaheds);
- 11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from the Taganrog area and Bryansk region, Russia;
- 5 Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from the Kursk area, Russia.
The main target of the strike was the city of Kyiv.
Ukraine's Air Force, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare (EW) units, drone systems, and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces responded to the aerial assault.
According to preliminary data as of 09:00, Ukraine’s air defense neutralized 354 aerial targets: 158 were shot down by firepower, and 196 were lost or suppressed via electronic warfare:
- 146 Shahed-type and other drones were shot down, 193 were disrupted or lost via EW;
- 7 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles were shot down, and 3 were location-lost;
- 5 Iskander-K cruise missiles were destroyed.
Direct hits by Russian aerial weapons were recorded at 6 locations, and debris from intercepted targets fell on 25 locations in Kyiv and Kyiv region.
