Border guards are recording attempts by small Russian assault groups to enter the Sumy region, particularly in the direction of the villages of Novenke and Zhuravka.
This was stated on live television by Andrii Demchenko, the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
"We continue to record attempts by small Russian assault groups to infiltrate our territory and approach our border. Their objective remains unchanged: to penetrate as deeply as possible into the Sumy region, targeting either Novenke or slightly to the left, toward Zhuravka. We observe these enemy actions in this sector as they attempt to gather forces and expand the zone of active combat," Demchenko said.
He emphasized that all border units in the Sumy sector are using available weapons, artillery, mortars, and drones to eliminate these groups before they even reach the Ukrainian border. According to confirmed data, around 15 Russian soldiers were killed over the past day, and more than 10 were wounded and forced to retreat from Ukrainian territory.
At the same time, Demchenko noted that Russian forces are not using armored vehicles or transport for their advance, as the terrain does not allow it. Instead, they attempt to accumulate forces by moving on foot in small assault groups of two to five soldiers.
