Russian troops have once again intensified pressure on Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region. This is not the first attempt by the Russians to capture the settlement.

This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence on X (Twitter).

"In central Donetsk region, Russian forces have applied increasing pressure on the town of Velyka Novosilka," the statement reads.

Russian forces have advanced northward to capture the villages of Neskuchne and Vremiivka, the latter located west of the town of Velyka Novosilka.

British intelligence recalls that Russia's attempt to capture the town in the summer of 2022 failed, and in 2023, Ukraine pushed Russian forces further south.

"Russia’s advance on this axis followed its capture of other towns in the east, including Vuhledar in October 2024 and Kurakhove in January 2025," the intelligence added.
