Bulgaria has proposed the creation of a multinational maritime coordination center to ensure shipping security in the western part of the Black Sea. This idea was presented by Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov during a meeting of leaders supporting Ukraine in Paris, according to BTA.
The Bulgarian initiative aims for the coordination center to provide round-the-clock monitoring and early warnings of potential threats and hostile actions, as well as enhance the resilience of critical underwater infrastructure in the Black Sea.
"The goal is to establish guidelines for navigation and to carry out monitoring activities – by air and by sea, as well as on critical infrastructure, and on all potential hostile actions in the territory of the Black Sea," Zhelyazkov stated after the meeting.
He emphasized that the restoration of commercial shipping is crucial, as it affects not only neighboring countries but also the entire flow of goods from East to West.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister also noted that the mine clearance group in the Black Sea is a good example of how coordination between maritime nations can contribute to efforts to strengthen security, stability, and the freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.
