The city of Bucha should be considered as one of the options for the venue of the International Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, which will prosecute those who gave orders and carried them out. This includes russia's top political leadership. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stressed during the Bucha Summit on bringing russia accountable for crimes in Ukraine.
The event was chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and attended by President of Moldova Maia Sandu, President of Poland Andrzej Duda, President of Lithuania Gitanas NausÄda, President of Estonia Alar Karis, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Eduard Heger, Prime Minister of Slovenia Robert Golob, Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej PlenkoviÄ and other world leaders.
"Today, no one doubts that russia and its leadership must pay for the evil they have done. Pay with freedom, pay with money, pay with the status of a pariah state. Ukraine is currently working with international partners to establish a special international tribunal. The next step is the confiscation of russian assets that are frozen in the West and the transfer of these resources to rebuild Ukraine," emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, powerful sanctions are also needed to prevent new Bucha from happening again and to ensure that russia runs out of resources to wage war.
"We are grateful to our partners, the United States and the European Union for 10 sanctions packages. They have had a significant impact on the kremlin's ability to continue hostilities. But we need more sanctions in the military, energy, trade, financial, and IT sectors. Especially in the nuclear energy sector. We must refuse russian uranium and nuclear fuel. Sanctions on imports of russian steel, metal products, fossil minerals, precious metals, and industrial diamonds are also relevant. The mechanisms of the "price ceiling" on russian crude oil and petroleum products have proven to be effective. We need to reduce it to the maximum extent possible. In this way, we will bleed the aggressor's financial system dry," Denys Shmyhal assures.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that only justice and accountability would heal the wounds of Bucha.
"When in 1945 the Allies were choosing a venue for the trial of Nazism, they chose Nuremberg. Because the criminal ideology was forged there. When we choose a venue for the trial, Bucha should be considered as one of the options. After all, it was here, as the President of Ukraine emphasized, that the entire criminal nature of the putin regime and the russian occupation first manifested itself," the Prime Minister of Ukraine claimed.
