A total of 304 combat engagements took place between Ukrainian Defence Forces and Russian troops over the past 24 hours, with the heaviest Russian pressure concentrated in the Pokrovsk sector.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported this on Facebook in its operational update on Friday, October 16.
According to updated figures, Russian forces carried out 83 air strikes on Thursday, dropping 271 guided aerial bombs. They also deployed 7,059 kamikaze drones and shelled Ukrainian positions and populated areas 2,551 times, including 76 attacks using multiple-launch rocket systems.
Russian shelling affected numerous settlements in the Sumy region, including Korenok, Nova Sich, Bachivsk, Tovstodubove, Sopych, Rohizne, Ivolzhanske, Mala Korchakivka, Pysarivka, Yunakivka, Khrapivshchyna, Volfyne, Bezsalivka, Sukhodil, Ulanove, Zapsillia, Kindrativka, Hirky, Kozache, Seredyna-Buda, Mohrytsia, Brusky, Khotin, Rudenka, Neskuchne, Iskryskivshchyna, Yastrubshchyna and Luzhky, as well as Yanzhulivka in the Chernihiv region.
Russian forces also carried out an air strike on Vilna Sloboda.
Over the past day, Ukrainian aircraft struck an area where Russian troops were concentrated.
In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, Russian forces dropped three guided aerial bombs and shelled Ukrainian positions and settlements 64 times.
In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 22 Russian attacks. Russian troops attempted to advance near Starytsia, Izbytske and Chuhunivka, as well as towards Buzove and Radkivka.
In the Kupiansk sector, Russian forces made three attempts to improve their tactical positions, launching assaults towards Novoosynove and Shyikivka.
In the Lyman sector, Russian troops launched eight attacks towards Novoiehorivka, Olhivka, Druzheliubivka, Lyman and Staryi Karavan. All attempts to penetrate Ukrainian defensive lines were repelled.
In the Sloviansk sector, Russian forces launched two attacks towards Orikhuvatka and Mykolaivka.
In the Kramatorsk sector, Ukrainian defenders stopped three Russian attempts to advance near Chervone and towards Yurkivka.
In the Kostiantynivka sector, Russian troops carried out 27 attacks, conducting offensive operations near Kostiantynivka and Dovha Balka, as well as towards Rozkishne, Mykolaipillia and Raiske.
In the Pokrovsk sector, Russian forces launched 60 attacks, attempting to advance near Dorozhnie and Molodetske, as well as towards Toretske, Pavlivka, Novopavlivka, Vilne, Kucheriv Yar, Hannivka, Dobropillia, Svitlye, Krasnopodillia, Serhiivka and Muravka.
In the Oleksandrivka sector, Russian troops conducted no assault operations.
In the Huliaipole sector, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 20 times, attempting to advance towards Rizdvianka, Dolynka, Hirke and Yehorivka.
In the Orikhiv sector, Russian troops made two attempts to attack towards Pavlivka.
In the Prydniprovske sector, Russian forces conducted no assault operations.
In the Volyn and Polissia sectors, no signs of Russian offensive group formations were detected.
