Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will put forward a candidate for a European Union special representative for negotiations on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war at the upcoming EU summit.
She told journalists this during a press conference following the G7 summit.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the summit, Meloni explained whom she envisions for the role.
According to her, the EU negotiator should come from a “medium-sized country” rather than from one of the bloc’s largest member states.
The Italian prime minister also added that during the G7 meeting, the leaders managed to reach an understanding with U.S. President Donald Trump on issues related to Ukraine.
At the same time, she stressed that such mutual understanding “cannot always be taken for granted.”
Meloni is expected to present her official proposal for the candidate at the summit in Brussels.
