The Government of the Hellenic Republic has officially approved the extension of temporary protection for Ukrainian asylum seekers for another year, until 4 March 2027.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Greece announced this on Facebook.

The corresponding Decision No. 4507 was signed by Greece’s Minister of Migration and Asylum, Athanasios Plevris, on 9 January 2026.

“We inform you that, according to Decision No. 4507 of 09.01.2026 issued by the Minister of Migration and Asylum of the Hellenic Republic, Athanasios Plevris, the period of temporary protection for persons displaced from Ukraine has been officially extended for one more year – until 4 March 2027,” the diplomatic mission stated.

According to the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum, residence permits expiring between March 2023 and March 2026 are being extended automatically. Ukrainians do not need to take any additional steps or contact the authorities to renew their documents.

Citizens who plan to travel outside Greece may update their residence permits in person starting 16 February 2026. To do so, they must visit asylum service offices in Attica, Thessaloniki, Western Greece, Crete, or Rhodes and present their travel tickets (printed or electronic). In such cases, the renewal is carried out without an appointment.

Displaced persons entering Greece for the first time will receive temporary protection under the standard procedure, with validity until 4 March 2027.

The full text of the official document and detailed explanations for citizens are available on the website of the Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum.
