In Odessa, a criminal group will be tried for embezzling almost UAH 5 million of social benefits
The group included nine persons who performed state functions in the social protection of the population and banking activities. The defendants embezzled funds allocated for payments to newborn children raised by single mothers, as well as low-income parents with many children.
The operatives of the strategic investigations department in the Odessa region of the National Police of Ukraine and the investigators of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky district police department exposed the criminal scheme, identified its participants, and obtained evidence of their involvement in the scheme.
According to the investigation, the criminal scheme was organized by the head of the structural unit of social protection of the population and health care in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky district. She involved several subordinates, a bank employee, relatives, and acquaintances as accomplices.
Accomplices forged documents and, on their basis, unjustifiably assigned and charged social benefits to bogus persons. Later, the money was withdrawn from bank cards and distributed among the participants.
During 2017-2021, almost UAH 5 million was stolen.
Measures to expose illegal activities were carried out jointly with the employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region under the procedural guidance of the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Bilhorod-Dniester District Prosecutor's Office.
