In the final of the New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024, a recreational area from Lviv

The recreational area  "Nad Dzherelom" (Over the source)  located near the UNBROKEN Mothers center in Lviv, has made it to the final of the New European Bauhaus Prizes competition organized by the European Commission. The application was submitted by the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Lviv City Council together with the Lviv Bureau of Eurointegration.

"Nad Dzherelom" project aimed to restore an abandoned natural area for social integration of internally displaced persons with the local community while preserving the ecosystem and biodiversity.

It was a swift response by the city to the challenges of war, demonstrating that neglected natural areas can be restored with modest means, activated for social integration of IDPs, and provide a comfortable environment for psychological recovery while preserving the ecosystem and biodiversity.

This year marked Ukraine's first participation in the competition. There were four main categories: reconnecting with nature, restoring the sense of belonging, priority places and people in greatest need, and shaping a circular industrial ecosystem and supporting the life cycle thinking. Lviv presented its project in the "Reconnecting with Nature" category.

The winners of the New European Bauhaus Prizes, who will receive monetary awards, will be announced on April 12 in Brussels at the New European Bauhaus Fest. During the event, 20 projects, designs, and ideas will be awarded. Additionally, some projects will be recognized for their efforts in the reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine.
