By Ludmila Denisova, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights
As of 10 a.m. on April 20, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations, as well as other sources that need to be confirmed, 205 children have died and 373 children have been injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine (+6 per day).
It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.
A 16-year-old boy was injured in a shelling of a residential area in the village of Berestove, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region.
It became known that in the village of Stara Buda, Bucha district, Kyiv region, two children aged 6 and 8 were injured in a shelling of a family house.
The enemy systematically continues to destroy Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. So far, during the russian invasion, the aggressor has damaged 1,141 educational institutions due to bombing and shelling, of which 99 have been completely destroyed.
The actions of the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of Ukraine's children's right to life and security, guaranteed by the Hague and Geneva Conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these violations of children rights in Ukraine by Russia.
