In the European Union, a ban on the import of coal from Russia will enter into force on August 1, 2022.
The corresponding ban was provided for in the fifth package of sanctions adopted on April 7, 2022.
"From August 2022, a ban on the purchase, import and transportation of coal and other types of fossil fuels in the EU is foreseen, if they originate from Russia or are exported from Russia," - from the press service of the Council of the EU.
The share of Russian coal in the structure of EU consumption is 45%, in 2021 the European Union's expenditure on importing Russian coal amounted to EUR 4 billion.
The Committee on Energy and Housing welcomes the introduction of sanctions aimed at increasing pressure on the Russian government and economy, as well as limiting the Kremlin's resources for waging war on the territory of Ukraine.
