The defeat of Wagner mercenaries in Mali indicates that the monopoly of Russian private military companies in Africa is coming to an end, according to Andriy Yusov from Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate.
"The monopoly of Russian private military companies in Africa is ending, and there are emerging counterforces that can put these criminals in their place," Yusov stated during the "Unified News" telethon.
He noted that the defeat of Wagner forces in Mali has also caused Russia significant reputational damage.
"The whole world is talking about this today, and the vigorous reaction and wailing in the swamps are proof of that," Yusov commented.
Yusov added that there are military repercussions from the events in Mali, including the redeployment of additional Russian mercenaries and terrorists from other parts of Africa.
"This forces the enemy to spend additional resources and divert forces and means to protect their own contingent," he said.
He also did not rule out further operations in Africa against Russian private military companies.
"This is gaining momentum, and there will be more to come," Yusov noted.
Tuareg rebels (CSP-PSD) in northern Mali defeated a large group of Wagner mercenaries, capturing a significant number of militants and offering to transfer them to the Ukrainian side. Ukrainian intelligence is currently verifying the Tuareg rebels' statements about their willingness to hand over the captured Wagner mercenaries.
