German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday, May 21st, for a visit. This marks her seventh visit to Ukraine since the full-scale Russian invasion began in February 2022.
She noted that the situation in Ukraine has recently sharply deteriorated again due to "Russian missile terror," with mass air strikes on civilian infrastructure and the advance of Russian forces in the Kharkiv region.
According to her, to protect Ukraine "from Russian rocket artillery and drones, urgent reinforcement of air defense is needed."
"That's why together with Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, we launched a global initiative to strengthen air defense. Almost a billion euros has been collected for additional support to Ukrainian air defense forces, and we are actively working to increase it further," she said.
