Investigative journalist Christo Grozev spoke on YouTube about âstrange coincidencesâ associated with the sudden death of 64-year-old Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, and said that Bellingcat would investigate this incident.
According to Grozev, there is no objective data yet to draw definite conclusions about the cause of Makei's death. However, according to him, analyzing the situation requires a detailed investigation.
âAnd we will deal with it,â the journalist said.
The reason why the death of the minister attracted his attention, Grozev called "several strange coincidences."
First, just a few days before Makei's death, an "unusual leak of information" was received that an assassination attempt was being prepared against Lukashenka or a warning signal about an assassination attempt. The journalist called the sources of information ânot very clear brain tanksâ, but in less than two days, Makei died.
According to Grozev, this can be regarded as a signal against Lukashenko. He referred to the opinions of Belarusian experts that Makei was a key representative of the peace party with the West, âwho really tried to keep the doors of Belarus open for conversation with the West.â In addition, the journalist noted, âhe was not too old and definitely not a sick person.â
Based on this, Grozev said, Bellingcat intends to conduct its own investigation into Makei's death.
Recall that Vladimir Makei died suddenly on November 26 at the age of 64. The exact cause of death is unknown, according to some media reports, he had heart problems. Makei worked for decades in the civil service and since 2012 headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus. Vladimir Makei was buried on November 29 at the Eastern Cemetery.
