The Italian humanitarian organization Cesvi allocates the first half a million euros to restore the Ukrainian Bucha and plans to raise more thanks to charitable contributions.

The mayor of the city of Bucha, Anatoliy Fedoruk, met Piersilvio Fagiano, general director of the Cesvi Foundation. This is the first meeting between local authorities and an Italian NGO to ascertain the humanitarian needs of the population in view of the activation of a dedicated project starting in the coming weeks, which will be able to count on a Cesvi office directly in the city for the logistics management of all operations.

I am proud to have an Italian NGO at our side and also to have received a twinning proposal with the city of Bergamo

The Fund allocates the first 500 thousand euros for the restoration of public infrastructure and social facilities in Bucha. At the same time, the amount for the restoration of Bucha will be increased by charitable contributions that the foundation attracts from private and public donors, in particular from the municipality of the city of Bergamo, where its headquarters are located.

Among the priority areas for the restoration of Bucha are:

  • re-establish security in the liberated areas (where the demining and removal of war remnants campaign is underway) to allow citizens to return in complete safety
  • rebuild and/or recover the destroyed infrastructures, both public and residential ones (also with an intermediate phase of temporary structures);
  • rebuild housing, economic/productive activities and facilities for social activities
  • re-equip fleets of public service vehicles, such as ambulances, fire engines, public transport;
  • favor the resumption of work activities, and the recovery of industrial production.

"The city of Bergamo came out with a proposal to establish a sister relationship with the city of Bucha. This will be a long-term close cooperation that will include the development of the city - in the communal and social spheres," said Piersilvio Fagiano, general manager of the Cesvi Foundation. He added that the foundation is ready to "bring 'Italian solidarity to the world' also here in Bucha and Irpin."

During the mission in Ukraine, the Cesvi Foundation also met with General Olexander Pavliuk, Head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration, and Oleksii Kuleba, head of humanitarian activities.

It is noted that since the beginning of the war, the Cesvi Foundation has already allocated 1.5 million euros for humanitarian assistance. The foundation was founded in Bergamo in 1985 and is now present in 23 countries.
