The human rights activist emphasized that it is difficult for the Buryats to understand why they should "denazify" Ukraine if Moscow shows xenophobic sentiments toward Buryatia and destroys the culture and language of the region.
Among the soldiers of Buryatia, there is a very low interest in fighting in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
This was told by the head of the Free Buryatia Foundation, Alexandra Garmazhapova on the air of the Freedom TV channel.
According to her, the military of Buryatia writes reports en masse, but they are still sent by force to the front.
"In the occupied territory in eastern Ukraine, there are now about 17 people, among whom there are Tuvans, Buryats, and Russians. They wrote 3 weeks ago statements about the termination of the contract. They were closed in the commandant's office, they are not released, and they are terrified that they would be sent to the front line without equipment, just to shoot quietly. They write to us every day," says the head of the Foundation.
Garmazhapova added that approximately 50 military personnel from Buryatia canceled their contracts and returned home. Despite this, they are threatened by the court, do not want to consider their reports, and take away their phones and close them in a punishment cell.
"Commanders pretend they don't see the reports, put seals "prone to lies and betrayal," says the head of the Foundation.
According to her, a group of Buryat soldiers was driving home, but they were turned around and sent back to the front. Therefore, the military jumped out of the buses to escape.
"The men have already written reports about the termination of the contract. But it turned out that the bus with these men, who were already on their way home, was turned around, and they were again sent to the territory occupied in Ukraine, and left there for another 10 days. And yesterday, today, planes began to arrive, and there are already those who refused. The contract can be terminated. There is no punishment for this. This is real. But they were kept in custody, and they managed to return. Either like this or with a load of 200," says the human rights activist.
Garmazhapova stressed that it is difficult for the Buryats to understand why they should "denazify" Ukraine if Moscow is showing xenophobic sentiments towards Buryatia and has destroyed the culture and language of the region.
âI was contacted by one military man who managed to terminate the contract, he said: âI donât want to be an occupier. And I donât understand why we are trying to get into Ukraine, if I lived in Moscow for 9 years and encountered racism and xenophobia there.â home. Are you sure that Ukraine needs "denazification"? Are you saying that you want to protect the Russian language in Ukraine? Remember what happens to the languages ââof the indigenous peoples of Russia in Russia? And that it was Putin who initiated that your language was transferred to the category of an elective and became optional for studying. "And then something clicks in people," the head of the Foundation summed up the conclusions.
Let us recall that earlier in Chechnya, there were cases of threats to drive the local population to war under the guise of "volunteers".
Also, factory workers who fell under the sanctions are being agitated to go to Ukraine to fight.
