Russian forces are attempting in small groups to break through the Ukrainian border and create a so-called “security zone,” but they have achieved no significant success.
This was stated by Viktor Tregubov, Head of the Communications Department of the Joint Forces Group, during TV broadcast.
“They have a mission. The mission is basically to create a control zone along the entire Russia-Ukraine border. Practically, this means just pushing the border into Ukrainian territory,” Tregubov said.
According to him, the concept of a control zone implies territory from which the enemy cannot strike, but at present, this is unattainable.
“Right now, this is impossible simply because the Ukrainians have the necessary strike capabilities that reach such distances,” he explained.
Tregubov added that the Russians have only managed to advance in one narrow section.
“If you look at the map, they’ve only succeeded in one very narrow section — that’s the Velykoburlutske direction… but it’s really just a tiny piece,” emphasized the Joint Forces representative.
He also noted that along the entire border, the enemy operates in small units.
“They are trying to create such a security zone along the entire border… probing in small groups, maybe hoping the Ukrainian forces have relaxed somewhere,” Tregubov said.
At the same time, he stated that Ukrainian forces maintain control of the situation.
“Basically, the Ukrainians are not relaxing now, so there are no particular successes [for the Russians] here,” he emphasized.
He also commented on the situation in Hrabovske.
“Unfortunately, in Hrabovske, the Russians are currently entrenched quite densely. They cannot conduct any active offensive operations from there simply because Ukrainian forces are well-prepared on the other side,” Tregubov said.
He also confirmed the expansion of the Ukrainian strike zone.
“Where the Ukrainian troops are directly on the state border, the strike zone now ranges from 20 to 40 kilometers. Well, maybe less right now… but roughly like that,” he noted, adding that “this means it doesn’t just reach Belgorod, it flies over Belgorod.”
