Ukraine is initiating the establishment of mixed medical commissions for the exchange of prisoners with the aggressor country, Russia. This was stated by Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Coordination Headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war. This information was reported by the Military Media Center on Telegram.

"Ukraine is announcing and creating yet another additional instrument that will allow for the repatriation of our captured defenders, the seriously ill, and severely wounded individuals from the aggressor state's captivity. This instrument will also enable the aggressor state to repatriate its own seriously ill and injured individuals," said Yusov.

Mixed medical commissions are being established in accordance with the Geneva Conventions of 1949.

As Andriy Yusov pointed out, a similar instrument has been applied three times in the history of international law, including during the Iran-Iraq and Korean wars. He reminded that Kyiv has always promptly returned severely wounded captives to Russia.

Yusov emphasized that Ukraine is a democratic country that observes international law.

"We are obligated to ensure proper treatment of all prisoners of war, regardless of their nationality," he said.
