President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola in Kyiv. They discussed the situation at the front, defense support, plans of the Russian forces, Ukraine's European integration and the Global Peace Summit. The leaders made this announcement during a joint press conference.
The Head of State emphasized that now, 79 years after defeating Nazism, Europe has once again become a place of battle that decides the fate of many nations.
"And in this battle, life must prevail. Life must prevail over Russian FABs and KABs, Russian missiles, Russian assaults, and hatred that ruin the lives of millions of Ukrainians and see the lives of millions of Europeans as their target," Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The President thanked Roberta Metsola for her consistent support of Ukraine and presented her with the Order of Merit of the first class. He reminded that the President of the European Parliament was one of the first world leaders to visit Ukraine when the Russian occupiers were still on the outskirts of Kyiv.
The parties also discussed the preparation of the Global Peace Summit to be held in Switzerland. Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the Russian dictator is trying to disrupt the Summit.
"That is why we need a crystal clear position of every state, every leader, every international organization regarding participation in the Global Peace Summit and support of our common peacebuilding efforts," the President said.
The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine has fulfilled all the necessary conditions for the adoption of the negotiating framework and the start of negotiations on the accession of our country to the European Union in June.
Roberta Metsola noted that her visit demonstrates the unwavering support for Ukraine and its place in the European family, and called on Europeans to step up their assistance.
"I am optimistic about the negotiating framework being adopted by the EU member states in June. The European Parliament will help Ukraine to move along the European path in all possible ways and supports all 10 points of the Ukrainian Peace Formula. We hope that the Peace Summit in Switzerland will yield practical results," the President of the European Parliament summarized.
