Denmark has allocated more than $14 million for a joint procurement programme of ammunition for Ukraine by European Union countries.
The purchase of 155mm ammunition is taking place under the auspices of the European Defense Agency (EDA).
It is expected that the artillery rounds will be delivered in 2024, as announced by the Danish Ministry of Defense.
"Ukrainians are still in a situation where they urgently need artillery ammunition. We must do something, and with this contribution, Denmark - in cooperation with several other EU countries - takes responsibility for supplying Ukraine with 155mm ammunition for its artillery.
Denmark will contribute to increasing joint procurement of ammunition and, as before, is ready to support Ukraine in the long term," said Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen.
To support the joint European procurement of 155mm artillery ammunition for Ukraine, the Danish government has decided to allocate 100 million Danish kroner (over $14 million USD).
These procurements are being conducted under the auspices of the European Defense Agency (EDA), which Denmark joined on March 23, 2023.
The project provides a common framework and mandate for EU member states to conduct joint procurements of ammunition.
It is designed for an 8-year duration, with EDA acting as the contract holder and coordinator for the procurement.
