The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has developed a strategy for the development of relations between Ukraine and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin. This was announced on Wednesday, January 10th, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.
"Ukrainian diplomacy systematically implements the tasks set by President Volodymyr Zelensky to open new horizons for Ukraine in the world. In 2022-2023, we significantly intensified cooperation with Africa, launching a renaissance in Ukrainian-African relations. The year 2024 will be the year of Ukraine's return to the Latin American and Caribbean Basin region," said the Ukrainian Minister.
Dmytro Kuleba explained that the Strategy for the development of relations between Ukraine and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin (LACB) was developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for the first time in Ukrainian history. It is designed for a five-year period.
"The Strategy is a document of strategic planning aimed at bringing political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and other areas of cooperation to a new qualitative level. It defines the main directions of Ukraine's activities in the Latin American and Caribbean Basin region in the face of Russian aggression, the need to ensure support for the restoration of just peace in our state, and post-war reconstruction," emphasized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Specifically, according to him, the Strategy sets such goals for Ukraine's relations with LACB countries: ensuring support for Ukraine from the countries of the region in countering Russian aggression, de-occupation of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders; involving LACB countries in the implementation of President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula; supporting Ukrainian exporters in entering the markets of LACB countries; increasing trade and investment volumes; supporting Ukrainian communities in LACB countries to meet their national, cultural, and linguistic needs; strengthening Ukrainian information presence and combating Russian propaganda; promoting Ukrainian culture.
It's worth noting that in 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine developed an Asian strategy, and in 2022, an African one. The development and implementation of the strategy for relations with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin will complete the process of qualitatively new strategic coverage of all regions of the world for the comprehensive promotion of Ukraine's national interests
