On the eve of the extraordinary meeting of the EU Council on Transport, Telecommunications and Energy, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko held consultations with Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, and Jozef Sikela, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, which currently chairs the EU Council.
The parties discussed the issue of increasing the volume of electricity exports from Ukraine to European countries. Kadri Simson and Joseph Sikela assured of Ukraine's support in this matter.
"The increase in the export of electricity from Ukraine will contribute to the reduction of prices for this product in European countries because Europe is currently suffering from sharp jumps in the price of electricity. At the same time, revenues from exports will help Ukraine stabilize the domestic electricity market. Ukraine has significant export potential," the Minister emphasized.
He also called for support for the demilitarization of the Zaporizhia NPP, which should be returned to the full control of the Ukrainian authorities and its legitimate operator.
Today, during the meeting of the Council, Kadri Simson called on the participants to support the proposal to apply to ENTSO-E for accelerating the step-by-step increase in electricity trade with Ukraine, taking into account the obligation of ENTSO-E to ensure the stability and security of the European energy system.
According to the European Commissioner, increasing exports is a mutually beneficial process for Ukraine and Europe.
The conclusions based on the results of the extraordinary meeting indicate that the European ministers confirm their commitment to strengthening energy cooperation with Ukraine, particularly in the context of mutually beneficial electricity trade.
Herman Galushchenko thanked European partners for their political support. "It is crucial for us to feel the reliable shoulder of the European community. And we are just as ready to support our partners," the Minister noted.
