Hungary has prepared scenarios in case Russian aggression against Ukraine reaches Transcarpathia. The state is ready to take measures, and the withdrawal of the military from border protection is one of them.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó shared this information in a recent interview with the Hirado portal.
According to the Foreign Ministry, his country will continue the policy of maximum distancing from the war. The state wants to minimize the likelihood of being drawn into hostilities.
At the same time, Hungary has scenarios ready in case the battles begin to unfold on the territory of Transcarpathia. True, the Foreign Minister did not specify the country's actions in such a situation.
"We have also prepared scenarios in case of war [in Transcarpathia], and the withdrawal of the Hungarian military from border protection is part of this," Péter Szijjártó said.
According to the official, Western countries have already imposed enough sanctions. Now we need to focus on a ceasefire and achieving peace.
Recall that in early July, Szijjártó said that Hungary does not send weapons to Ukraine, it is so afraid of revenge from the Russian Federation and subsequent shelling of the Hungarians in Transcarpathia. For such a statement, the minister was criticized by Ukrainian Hungarians.
Yesterday, July 14, Hungary increased the combat readiness of its armed forces and announced exercises.
