In Ukraine, there are 4.9 million registered internally displaced persons (IDPs), as reported by the Ministry of Social Policy.
"The start of full-scale invasion and active combat operations since February 24, 2022, and the imposition of martial law in Ukraine have led to mass displacement – citizens are leaving their homes in search of safety and protection. Currently, the number of officially registered internally displaced persons in the country reaches 4.9 million. Among them, 3.6 million are individuals who have been displaced (or re-displaced) since the start of the full-scale war. Among them, 2.5 million have been displaced and cannot return to their homes (either because the housing is destroyed, or located in an area of active combat, or in temporarily occupied territory)," the ministry's press service statement reads.
It is noted that the number of those who became internally displaced persons or re-displaced since 2022 has reached 3.5 million.
