Ireland will support Mariupol by assisting families in evacuation and sharing expertise in developing a new economic model for the city's future reconstruction.
The Mayor of Mariupol, Vadim Boychenko, discussed this cooperation during a meeting with the Ambassador of Ireland to Ukraine, Teresa Gilli. Ireland is ready to support Mariupol's evacuees and join programs to support Mariupol's schoolchildren.
Additionally, Ireland offered assistance in revitalizing Mariupol's economy after de-occupation, drawing from its experience in transforming economies and creating new industrial sectors. Ambassador Gilli emphasized Ireland's ongoing support for the Ukrainian people in their struggle for independence and freedom.
The "Mariupol Reborn" project is being implemented by the Mariupol City Council with investment support from Rinat Akhmetov's SCM and international donors.
After the occupation of Mariupol, the Russian "authorities" initiated the demolition of buildings damaged by shelling and began constructing new ones. In May 2022, the first advertisements from Russians looking to buy apartments and houses in the occupied city started to appear.
