Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, has stated that Russia is using the conflict in the Middle East to divert global attention from its invasion of Ukraine. This response from the Israeli diplomat comes after Russia's UN envoy, Vassily Nebenzia, claimed that Israel has no right to self-defense.

Erdan emphasized that if thousands of Russian citizens were killed and kidnapped by a terrorist organization, it's clear how Russia would react. Unfortunately, Russia is using the Hamas terrorist attack in the most twisted way to distract the world from its invasion of Ukraine.

The diplomat also referred to Russia as the "last country" that could teach Israel about adhering to international law. He found it ironic to hear moral lessons on human rights and international law from a representative of Russia, a country that had been removed from the UN Human Rights Council. According to Erdan, Russia is the last country that can offer such lessons.

Vassily Nebenzia previously stated that Israel has no right to self-defense in the war against Hamas. According to him, all the West can assert is Israel's supposed right to self-defense. However, as an occupying state, Israel does not have this right, as confirmed by the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice [UN] in 2004.
