On the territory of the Mariupol Sea Commercial Port, the russian military took hostage members of the crews of the ships "Azburg" under the flag of Dominica and "Lady Augusta" under the flag of Jamaica. This was announed by the Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.
According to the charter agreement, the dry cargo ship "Azburg" arrived at the Ukrainian trading port in Mariupol on February 22, 2022 from the city of Burgas (Bulgaria) to load metal products.
After artillery and mortar shelling of the port by the Russian Federation, cargo operations were suspended. On April 1, as a result of two mortar shells hitting the navigation bridge, glass flew off the ship and the navigation equipment was partially damaged.
The next day, a projectile hit the engine room and exploded inside, causing a fire in the engine room and injuring a motorist.
The boat of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine responded to the distress signal and helped the crew to evacuate aboard the ship "Lady Augusta". The injured motorcyclist was taken to the hospital by border guards and treated.
On April 10, members of the crew of two ships: "Azburg - 12 sailors are citizens of Ukraine" and "Lady Augusta", whose crew consists of Syrian citizens, their number is unknown, the occupiers captured and took to the temporarily occupied Donetsk.
By doing so, Russia violates the right to life and liberty, personal integrity guaranteed by Articles 3 and 5 of the 1950 Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the right to freedom of movement guaranteed by Article 2 of Protocol No. 4 to the Convention.
