As part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), special social institutions in the Kyiv region for elderly patients and people with disabilities have received new rehabilitation equipment.

The handover ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Marina Denysiuk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Ruslan Kravchenko, and the Head of JICA Office in Ukraine, Hideki Matsunaga.

The equipment for social institutions in Kyiv region from the people of Japan includes 11 vehicles for transporting people with disabilities and mobility-impaired patients, 22 physiotherapy devices, and other rehabilitation equipment.

This aid is provided within the framework of the joint project between the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine and JICA, titled "Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction Project." The project focuses on the most affected cities and regions that require urgent assistance.

"Ukraine and Japan are cooperating at the government level to implement recovery projects and address the consequences of the war. Japan regularly provides technical and grant support for key sectors and the fulfillment of basic needs for our citizens."

"The Japan International Cooperation Agency is systematically working on humanitarian demining, supplying essential equipment for the energy sector, water supply and sewage, waste management from destruction, installing heat pumps in social infrastructure facilities, and restoring damaged kindergartens, schools, and hospitals. Thanks to the cooperation between the Ministry and JICA, we are able to restore critical infrastructure in communities. Therefore, we continue to expand our cooperation to help people endure the difficult times of war," noted Marina Denysiuk.

Kyiv region was one of the first to bear the brunt of the Russian invasion at the beginning of the full-scale war and has a significant need for recovery, including in healthcare. According to the Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, active work is underway to develop rehabilitation infrastructure for both military and civilian people injured in the hostilities.

As the Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, stated, such joint projects are a testament to the solidarity between the Japanese and Ukrainian peoples. Japan continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in both providing urgent assistance and in long-term recovery projects. In particular, in the fields of healthcare, population rehabilitation, and the creation of social services in communities. The provided equipment will help the most vulnerable members of society restore their health and maintain resilience during this difficult time.

It is worth noting that at the beginning of 2023, Ukraine and Japan signed a series of grant agreements providing over 700 million dollars for Ukraine's recovery needs.
