The meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine scheduled for September 22 will be held at the ministerial level. The heads of the Russian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministries, Sergey Lavrov and Dmitry Kuleba, were invited to it.

This was announced at a press conference by France's Permanent Representative to the UN, Nicolas de Rivière.

"This is a ministerial meeting on Ukraine, so all the ministers of the UN Security Council member states are invited, in particular, by default, the Russian minister. Since this is a meeting on Ukraine, the Ukrainian minister will also be invited," de Rivière said.

He noted that "France hopes that both ministers will be present."

"It depends on them whether they come to this meeting," the diplomat added.

In addition, the French envoy added that another meeting of the UN Security Council would be held on September 7, dedicated to the forced displacement of people in Ukraine. It is organized at the request of the United States of America and Albania.

The Permanent Representative of France to the UN also commented on the information about the meeting of the Security Council convened by Russia on the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

"Yes, Russia has indeed applied on this issue, and it looks like we will get together for this at the beginning of next week," Rivière said.

Recall that earlier, Russia demanded that the United States ensure unhindered access for the Russian delegation to participate in the UN General Assembly, which will be held in New York. In particular, an American visa was asked to be opened for Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, against whom sanctions have been imposed prohibiting him from entering the country.
