Lithuania has completed the construction of a physical barrier on the border with Belarus.

According to the Baltic News Service, a fence and barbed wire appeared on the border sections with a length of about 550 kilometers.

"This weekend, a team of contractors assembled by EPSO-G (the contractor company that implemented the project) installed the last planned fencing segments on the border with Belarus," Antanas Bubnelis, the company's communications manager, told BNS.

So, a physical barrier is installed along the entire land border between countries. The total length of the border between Lithuania and Belarus is 679 km, of which more than 100 km of the border passes along the banks of rivers and lakes.

Prime Minister Ingrida Å imonytÄ— later said that the special commission on Monday confirmed that the work had been completed, although "there is still some work to be done."

"At all sites … a new fence has been built or the old fence has been repaired, the work has been 100 percent completed, and now only some work to eliminate defects and documents remain," she said.

Recall that after last year's influx of illegal migrants from Belarus, Lithuania decided to build a fence on the border. Lithuania blamed the regime of Alexander Lukashenko for organizing the crisis and called it a hybrid attack.

This year, Lithuania, according to the message of the border service, also expects an increase in migration flows, although not as much as last year.

In June, the Polish border service, which also faced a flow of migrants, announced the completion of the construction of a 140-kilometer barrier on the border with Belarus. In addition, the country wants to build a surveillance system on the border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia.
